'Roommate' Stars Minka Kelly, Cam Gigandet Share Girl-Fight Tips

'We made sure it was messy and hair was everywhere,' Kelly tells MTV News of her showdown with Leighton Meester.

For anyone who has seen a trailer or TV spot for "The Roommate" — the upcoming thriller starring Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly and Cam Gigandet — it's clear that the film contains the following: beautiful people in college, beautiful people in college going crazy and beautiful people possibly getting in possessive girl fights.

Naturally, we don't want to spoil anything, but one of the key elements to a good thriller is a good balance of tension and action. "The Roommate" happens to have a few of those scenes, particularly a climactic battle royale. When MTV News caught up with Kelly and Gigandet recently, we asked them to explain the elements to a good girl fight, and specifically what went into the one in their film.

"The key elements to a girl fight ... having a guy get knocked out by a girl is always a key element," Gigandet joked, hinting at something his character endures in the film. "Yeah, that one took a blow to my ego as well."

Gigandet said Kelly and Meester's performances dispel "the image of a women's fragileness. Their fight put that to rest. These girls are not fragile; they're badasses. So that was my favorite part of it."

Kelly, who plays the innocent nice girl to Meester's crazy chick, said there was a lot of work involved in making the scene believable.

"We worked really hard to make sure it looked like a real girl fight," she explained. "I Googled 'girl fights' on YouTube, and we made sure it was messy and hair was everywhere."

Kelly added that they threw real punches and knees, and that they did their own stunts. "We fought to kill, because unfortunately, when girls fight, they fight to kill, and that was very true and real in our fight. We did our own stunts. We were pretty banged up by the end of it," she admitted.

"I wanted to make sure that our fight looked like a real girl fight," Kelly continued. "I didn't want it to look too choreographed or rehearsed. I wanted it to be messy and intense. That's why we made sure it was us; every frame it's us."

'Superman' Star Henry Cavill Will Be 'Amazing,' Christopher Nolan Says

'I'm super-excited to watch Zack [Snyder]'s movie when it's done,' filmmaker said at Santa Barbara Film Festival.

In a statement Sunday announcing the identity of the latest big-screen Superman, director Zack Snyder dubbed Henry Cavill "the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield." In a case of dueling casting-choice superlatives, Christopher Nolan — who has assumed a sort of godfather role on the upcoming superhero flick — met Snyder's "perfect" and raised him one.

"I think Henry is going to be amazing," Nolan said during a talk at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, according to HitFix.com.

During the talk, Nolan seemed reluctant to broach the topic of "Superman" and made clear that while he did bring Snyder into the mix, he won't be micromanaging the operation.

"What I'm doing on that is that I hired a great director to take it on and it's more his problem than mine hopefully," Nolan said. "I'm going to be very busy, but I'm super-excited to watch Zack's movie when it's done."

What Nolan is going to be busy with, of course, is "The Dark Knight Rises," his third — and, by most accounts, final — Batman film. It was unclear for a while if the director would even return for another movie about the Caped Crusader. Nolan went off and made "Inception" instead of diving back into Gotham City following 2008's "The Dark Knight," and until last fall, he played coy on the question of hopping back into the director's chair for a third "Batman" flick. But eventually he relented.

"I think really it was about finishing the story," Nolan explained. "For me it's about ... knowing where I want to go with the thing and I think with 'Batman' the story we're going to tell is Bruce Wayne's story. So, that's what gets me excited about getting back into something.

"The sequel thing is rather interesting because there is a lot of comfort in the familiarity of it, but there is also a challenge of reinventing it for yourself as well as the audience," he added. "You just can't do the same things again. But once you start thinking about Bruce Wayne's story, you want to see where that goes."

Ricky Gervais Says Golden Globes Invited Him Back For 2012

HFPA and some celebrities were upset with the comedian's jokes at this year's awards show.

When you flip over the tables, spill wine on the red carpet and set the dog on fire, you're typically not invited back to your boss' house for dinner. Unless, of course, your name is Ricky Gervais and you happen to be a world-beatingly witty and funny guy.

Nearly a month after upsetting a number of major Hollywood stars, not to mention the Hollywood Foreign Press Association organizers who hired him, British comedian Gervais revealed that he was actually asked to return for a third Golden Globes hosting gig next year.

The bombshell was included at the end of a Globes diary the creator of the British version of "The Office" wrote for Heat magazine. After chronicling the week leading up to his second go-round as Globes host, Gervais wrote, "I did exactly what I went to do. Improve on last year's and have a laugh. The response was staggering. It was discussed on every news channel and chat show for weeks. The weird thing is the question is always, 'Did Ricky go too far?' And the answer is always, 'No.' I have yet to find anyone who was actually offended by it."

He added, "The ratings went up again, and the organizers asked me to consider a third year. I don't think I should. I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure."

Gervais, known for skewering sacred cows in his standup and for his irreverent take on celebrity, brought that take-no-prisoners approach to the Globes hosting gig this year, launching broadsides against such megastars as Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Charlie Sheen, Robert Downey Jr. and even the president of the HFPA. While taking the stage mid-show, a dour Downey called the performance "hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones," but Gervais has claimed all along that nobody complained to him and the atmosphere backstage and at the afterparty was "great."

"Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure," an unidentified HFPA member told AOL's Popeater a few days after the event. "For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain."

A spokesperson for the HFPA could not be reached for comment at press time, but if Gervais is telling the truth, it seems that a twist on the old Hollywood adage is true: funny + good ratings/ tons of press = forgiveness.

Then again, as he noted at the end of the Heat story, "You know me. Two seasons is enough," alluding to his two-year stints on the original "Office" as well as "Extras."
