This weekend, Ryan Block put up an interesting post on gdgt entitled:�Will the Mac App Store have enough to sell? He raises a number of good points for why Apple may not be able to replicate their current App Store success with this new desktop store. But I'm left wondering if the store won't lead to a new class of app: a sort of micro-app for the desktop. Block makes the following points: a) high-end software like Photoshop won't be placed in this store because Adobe won't want to give Apple a 30 percent cut of all sales. b) most paid desktop software is dead or dying due to free replacements on the web. c) Apple's strict rules will prevent developers from using this new store for test or demo software. I agree with all of those points. And that's why I'm wondering if this store won't instead lead to this new type of app environment.

Well this is sort of interesting. Apparently, Twitter has just kicked off something they're calling their "Hack Week". But instead of it being a time when various third-party developers get together to hack on things off of Twitter's APIs, Twitter employees themselves are going to see what crazy cool things they can come up with. A post on their engineering blog outlines this. "We?ll all be building things that are separate from our normal work and not part of our day-to-day jobs," the post notes. This sounds a lot like Google's "20 percent time" ? Google employees are encouraged to spend up to 20 percent of their time working on interesting side projects not directly related to their actual work.

So look, you feel pretty special toting around that dual-SIM phone, right? Being able to switch numbers and carriers as you hop back and forth between Germany and Amsterdam is fairly nifty, but you've been considering a daily route around the Benelux. Of course, tri-SIM phones aren't impossible to find either, but should you ever wander into France, Switzerland or any other nation, you'll be forced to pop one of those out and insert another the old fashioned way. Well, unless you can score an OTECH F1. This here handset -- which can only be found in the wilds of Asia right now -- actually has room for four SIM cards, and it's also packing a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.4-inch touchscreen, support for mobile TV, an FM radio tuner, Bluetooth module and what appears to be a 12.1 megapixel camera. Unsurprisingly, a price on this bad boy is eluding us, but if you're an industrious jetsetter, we're confident you won't have any issues running one down. Whether or not you want to, however, is another matter entirely...

There's a new one-click wonder in town: SuperOneClick. It's free, full-featured, and roots almost every phone. Get it while it's hot, Android users!

SuperOneClick is a standard rooting kit, but with a simple GUI to mask all complexity from the end-user. Instead of running the risk of bricking your phone with fiddly command-line tools, this app just requires a single click of the button. You can also unroot the phone and enable Non-Market Apps -- again, with one click. If that wasn't enough, there's even a video showing you how to do it after the break!

There are a few phones that are incompatible with SuperOneclick (all of them HTC), but even then, it's just a matter of visiting Unrevoked and following some (fairly) simple guides. There's also one other problem: it's Windows-only, but it looks like the next major version will support Linux. Mac will have to wait a little longer -- but do Mac users actually own Android phones...?
